The original lighthouse was erected in 1870 with brick and mortar. In 1906, the lighthouse was severely damaged due to the devastating earthquake that hit San Francisco.
The lighthouse was rebuilt with concrete which led to the first reinforced concrete design for lighthouses.
Alpha’s work on the exterior of the lighthouse and two small service buildings included concrete spall repairs, cathodic protection, coating metal railings with epoxy coating, applying urethane deck coating to the observation deck and roof coating to the utility buildings and coating the exterior walls of the lighthouse with an elastomeric coating.
